Bangkok, Thailand, May 5, 2016 – The AVC Executive Committee Meeting was held on Thursday at the Conference Room of the Grande Centre Point Terminal 21 Hotel in Bangkok to review substantive preparation of the 38th AVC Board of Administration Meeting the following day.
Jointly chaired by AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser and FIVB and AVC Honorary Life President Mr Wei Jizhong, the meeting also took place with aims of hearing a briefing about the current situation and controversial issues of some National Federations consisting of India, American Samoa and Kuwait and getting ready for the comprehensive review of implement of resolution aside from approving the Agenda of the AVC Board of Administration Meeting.
Also in attendance in the Thursday’s meeting were FIVB General Director Mr Fabio Azevedo, Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamza, Executive Vice President Mrs Rita Subowo and five Zonal Executive Vice Presidents including AVC Secretary-General and Zonal Executive Vice President S.E.Z. Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, E/C and B/A member Mrs Fong S.V. Alice Oliver and Dr Rueangsak Siriphol, General Manager of the AVC Headquarters.
Ahead of the meeting, Mr Hugh Graham, member of the Board Administration as president of the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee, presented souvenirs to AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser, FIVB General Director Mr Fabio Azevedo on behalf of FIVB President Dr Ary Graca and AVC Beach Volleyball Committee Chairman Mr Craig Carragher for all their kind supports to allow Cook Islands to host the Continental Cup Phase 2.
After that, AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser delivered an opening and welcome speech to all participants before Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamza conducted the meeting.
One of the main topics raised for discussion in the Thursday’s meeting was the controversy of the Volleyball Federation of India, which tends to affect the India’s efforts of hosting the AVC Cup for Men later this year as well as the administrative management within the association. The AVC Executive Meeting agreed unanimously for Mr Wei Jizhong to pay an inspection visit to India for the further discussion with the IOA’s President in India.
In terms of the Kuwait case, the Executive Committee members agreed with the FIVB’s decisions regarding the suspension of the Kuwait Volleyball Association and if the KVA would like to take part in any AVC tournaments in order to maintain the development of players’ activities, they must send a special request to FIVB and after the approval of FIVB, Kuwait then can participate under the FIVB flag.
During the meeting, Mr Craig Carragher, chairman of the AVC Beach Volleyball Committee, has requested the AVC to organise courses for beach volleyball technical supervisors and approve the competition regulations of Continental Cup Semi-finals in Thailand and the Finals in Australia.
