KYRGYZSTAN ADVANCE TO WCQ ASIAN CENTRAL ZONE SUB PHASE 2
Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, September 19, 2016 – Hosts Kyrgyzstan captured their crucial victory at the 2018 Volleyball World Championship Asian Central Zone Qualification Phase 1 Tournament last Friday to secure a berth to join Kazakhstan, Pakistan and India in the Sub Phase 2.
The World Championship Qualification Tournament in the Sub Phase 1 was organized between September 15 and 17 in Cholpon-Ata, with four countries from Centre Asia featuring Bangladesh, Maldives, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan testing their mettle to vie for the honour.
However, Turkmenistan pulled out of the tournament in the last minute, leaving only the remaining three teams to battle it out to decide the winners, which will be promoted for the Phase 2 campaign.
Kyrgyzstan got off to a flying start as they delighted home fans with a convincing straight-set 25-19 25-16 26-24 victory over Bangladesh in their first match on September 15.
Bangladesh turned things around in positive way to power past Maldives in pulsating four sets 28-26 25-21 15-25 25-20 in their second encounter of the three-day event.
In the third match, Kyrgyzstan continued their dazzling form before their 4,500 home crowds to brush off Maldives in comfortable straight sets 25-16 25-18 25-19 for second win in the competition.
With a clean sweep of victories, Kyrgyzstan made the cut for the Sub Phase 2 along with Kazakhstan, Pakistan and India.
Mr Essa Hamza, FIVB Executive Vice President and the AVC Executive Vice President, was guest of honour in the closing ceremony on September 17 to deliver a speech and present awards to all participating teams.
He congratulated the eventual winners Kyrgyzstan and thanked the Volleyball Federation of Kyrgyzstan and Government of Kyrgyzstan for hosting in a best possible manner.

DEAN TURNER ON DUTY AT AVC CUP IN VINH PHUC WHILE CELEBRATING HIS 52nd BIRTHDAY
Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, September 20, 2016 – Mr Dean Turner from Australia, who is in charge of the Referee Sub Committee at the “SMM” 5th AVC Cup for Women at the Vinh Phuc Gymnasium here, was preparing a referee report, daily guidelines and development perspectives for all referees on Tuesday when Vietnamese referee Nguyen Thanh Hoa carried a birthday cake for him and all nine referees officiating the top-flight competition came up to sing the happy birthday song to him. Mr Turner turns 52 on September 20, the final day of the week-long event. Happy Birthday, Mr Dean!
