Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, October 5, 2016 – The FIVB Referee Refresher Course started on Wednesday at the Nakhon Pathom Municipality Gymnasium in Nakhon Pathom to coincide with the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Southeast Asian Zonal Qualification Tournament between October 7 and 9.
Being held from October 5 to 9, the course is in place to keep referees’ knowledge and competence of volleyball rules in line with current trends in the sport aside from encouraging the development of refereeing skills all over Asia.
AVC Referees Committee Chairman Mr Songsak Chareonpong, course director and course instructor, conducts the five-day course, which saw a total of 23 referees from 11 countries attend lectures and take pat in exercises on court before being assessed.
The candidates from Maldives, Mongolia, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Nepal, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand attended the opening ceremony at the Nakhon Pathom Municipality Gymnasium, with Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, president of the Thailand Volleyball Association, presiding. Also joining the ceremony were Mr Chai Nimakorn, Director of the FIVB Development Centre in Thailand, and AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert.
