Hwaseong, Korea, March 30, 2017 – Altos (IBK Industrial Bank) produced a comeback 3-1 win over Pink Spiders (Heungkuk Life) in the home-and-away four final matches to capture the 2016-17 Korea Women’s Volleyball League Championship.
The final championship between Altos and Pink Spiders was held between March 24 and 30 in Incheon and Hwaseong, homes of Pink Spiders and Altos respectively.
Both teams were closely matched, with Altos achieving a record of 94 points and Pink Spiders collecting an aggregate of 87 points.
In the first away match on March 24 in Incheon, Altos went down to hosts Pink Spiders in a hard-fought five-set thriller 13-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-13, 13-15.
The third encounter took place in Hwaseong on March 28. Hosts Altos remained in impressive form, coming from behind to beat the visitors 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, 15:8) for a 2-1 advantage.
In the final match on March 30, Altos delighted home fans at Hwaseong with their 3-1 (26-24, 25-20 18-25, 25-18) win for the eventual 3-1 match victory.
In this crucial clash, Altos (IBK Industrial Bank) took the first and second sets 26-24 and 25-20, thanks to quick attacks by Park Jung-A. She remained a backbone of the team in the second set, taking the splendid offensive combination with Kimg Mi-Yeon. However, the host team went down 18-25 to the well-organised rivals. Altos took a commanding 18-8 lead in the fourth set and went on their aggressive attacks to win the set 25-18 and match.
American import Medis Richell, 24, who led Altos with 28 points in the first match and 33 points in the second match, was no stranger to win the MVP award.
Founded in 2011, Altos (IBK Industrial Bank) have already won three V.League titles consisting of the 2012-13, the 2014-15 and the 2016-17 seasons.
