Phu Tho, Vietnam, April 3, 2017 – The 2017 Hung Vuong Cup Volleyball Championships will be held in Viet Tri-Phu Tho from April 5 to 8, with top four men’s and women’s teams from the first round of the Vietnam National Championship vying for the top honours.

Earlier, a total of 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams participated in the first round of the national championship, which were split into Pool A in Nam Dinh and Pool B in Thai Binh between March 25 and April 1.

In the men’s encounter, Becamex Army 4 became the best-ranked team of Pool A in the preliminary round with five straight wins to advance to the final round – Hung Vuong Cup. The Cong Army finished second place with four wins against one loss.

While Sanest Khanh Hoa topped Pool B with their five–match wins and Trang An Ninh Binh ended up in second place.

In the women’s competition, VTV Binh Dien Long An, which were strengthened by highly-experienced captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa and young stars such an 18-year-old Dang Thi Kim Thanh, a 19- year-old Duong Thi Hen and a 20-year-old Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, came out on top in Pool A with five consecutive wins to clinch the the first berth to the final round – Hung Vuong Cup.

Thong Tin Lienvietpostbank, playing without ace spiker Do Thi Minh, who is pregnant after marriage, won the second berth, but their route to victory in the Cup this time will be not that easy.

In Pool B, hosts PVD Thai Binh, with great encouragement from home spectators, had a better result to get the second ticket to Hung Vuong Cup, with Vietinbank taking the first berth.

Hung Vuong Cup is the annual tournament which will be organised on the occasion of the King Hung’s anniversary on the 10th of the Lunar third month every year.
