KAZAKHSTAN JOIN INDIA IN SEMI-FINALS OF “PRINCESS CUP”
Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, May 15, 2018 – Kazakhstan cruised to the semi-finals of the “Princess Cup” 20th Est Cola South East Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Centre Gymnasium following a comfortable straight-set win over Singapore on Tuesday.
The scintillating 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 victory has earned Kazakhstan the remaining slot in Pool B to the semi-finals. India emerged as the pool winners earlier to become the first team from Pool B to advance to the semi-finals after a hard-fought 3-2 win over gallant New Zealand.
Samal Ibrayeva topscored Kazakhstan with 14 points, while Violetta Kurlovich added 11 points. Chu Zi Tian and Sim Shu Qi Adeline scored 6 points apiece for Singapore.
Singapore tried hard to seriously challenge the Kazakhs in the first two sets but their efforts were not sufficient as they went down to the stronger opponents 19-25, 12-25. Holding a two-set advantage, Kazakhstan came up with solid defense and aggressive attacks to seal the third-set win with the similar margin 25-12.
“We prepared well for this match and we are very happy to advance to the semi-finals. This team will be the future of Kazakhstan team in the next three years as they are still young and have the height advantage,” Japanese Shuto Koichi, head coach of Kazakhstan, commented after the match.
‘It is going to be much more difficult in the next round as we have to play either Thailand or Australia. Both teams are very strong, so we will study their play. I hope my players will show their best form against the rivals,” he added
