HOST CITY TABRIZ NAMED TOURISM CAPITAL OF ISLAMIC WORLD IN 2018
Tabriz, Iran, July 1, 2018 – Tabriz, the host city of the on-going 12th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship, is named the “Tourism Capital of Islamic World in 2018.”
Geographically, it is located in East Azerbaijan province in the Northwest of Iran. As a historical city, Tabriz covers an area of 2167 km2 in total and is 600 kilometers away from Tehran, the capital city of Iran.
Located near the banks of Aras River, Tabriz connects Turkey, Azerbaijan, Caucasus and Armenia to each other. Tabriz is located on the Silk Road and connects Iran to Anatolia. The railway of Tabriz has been established before the World War II, through Nakhjivan, Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan and continues to Russia.
In late 2015, Tabriz was selected the Tourism Capital of Islamic Countries for 2018 by OIC. Moreover, the International Handcraft Council also nominated Tabriz as the Global City of Handmade Carpet in 2015.
This ancient city firmly stands for the glorious history of Iran, featuring great background and culture. People in Tabriz speak Turkish that is different from the standard language of Iran, Persian. Tabriz has already been the host of World Sitting Volleyball this year.
