Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, July 13, 2018 – Japan’s NEC Red Rockets, Kazakhstan’s Altay and Indonesia’s Garuda secured their second wins on Friday upon the conclusion of pool play on Friday at the SMM 2018 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace.

In Group A, Japan’s NEC Red Rockets defeated China’s Jiangsu Zhongtian Steel 3-1 (21-

25, 26-24, 29-27, 25-22), with captain Mizuki Yanagita and Nanami Hirose contributing 19 points each. While the Chinese club led in blocks and serves, NEC Red Rockets responded with more cohesive play to deliver higher efficiency in attack.

Kazakhstan’s Altay bested Chinese Taipei’s CMFC in Group B by winning 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-23). The hosts delivered a strong blocking game, connecting with a total of 18 deflections in the match. Heloiza Periera and Olga Drobyshevskaya scored 17 points each.

Indonesia’s Garuda won 3-1 (15-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23) against Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An in Group C. Aprilia Mangangan proved unstoppable as she scored 32 points from 28 attacks and four blocks.

Classification matches are set on Saturday, July 14. Jiangsu Zhongtian Steel (CHN) face Garuda (INA) at 12:30; Supreme (THA) will play against Paykan (IRI) at 15:00; CMFC (TPE) play Lanka Lions (SRI) at 17:30; while Altay (KAZ) take on VTV Binh Dien Long An (VIE) at 20:00. All times local. NEC Red Rockets (JPN), as the top-ranked team, earn the benefit of a rest day as they await the results of the Saturday’s matches.

The winners of the competition will earn the right to represent AVC in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
