Taipei, Chinese Taipei, August 9, 2018 – Qatar continued their winning streak with a convincing 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) victory over Thailand on the second day of 6th AVC Cup for Men at the University of Taipei (Tianmu) Gymnasium.

Thailand were able to keep up with Qatar in the first two sets, but Qatar were more seasoned in catching the key points at the very end of the sets as they captured the first two sets with the same margin 25-23 25-23.

Down by 0-2, Thailand head coach fielded more players from the bench with different tactics in set 3 and tried to bring the game back. However, Qatar led 8-4 at the 3rd set beginning and advantaged to the end, although Mohamed Ibrahim (#16) received a Red Card for arguing with the referee.

“Because team Qatar’s height takes advantage in blocking and serving, it’s a tough game for us. Also, some of my players are still suffering injury. We want to integrate our team and have our young players gain more experiences on international games,” commented Thailand head coach Monchai Supajirakul.

“We are getting better day by day. We are happy that we win this game. In the third set, it seems like that Thais gave up this match,” said by Qatar head coach Soto Camilo.

Hard-hitting Renan Ribeiro and Mubarak Hammad contributed 18 points apiece for Qatar, while Kantapat Koonmee led Thailand with 12 points including 11 kills and one ace.

With the record of two 3-0 wins, Qatar are assured of topping the pool C, while Thailand and Vietnam will compete against each other Friday afternoon for the second place of the pool.
