SATUN TO HOST 2018 ASIAN SENIOR BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bangkok,Thailand, September 14, 2018 – A press conference was held on Friday to announce host city Satun’s readiness ahead of the SMM 2018 Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships from September 25 to 28.

This will be the first qualifying tournament for the next year’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Germany. Players taking part in the Satun meet will vie for the top honours and Asian ranking points. At the end of the last qualifying tournament next April, only four teams with the highest accumulated points (likely to be four NFs) per gender will be eligible for the 2019 Hamburg Finals.

The Friday’s press conference took place at the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel in Bangkok, with Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of the Thailand Volleyball Association, presiding.

Also in attendance in the meeting were sponsor representatives from sponsors and supporters, media representatives and Thailand men’s and women’s national beach volleyball players.

In his speech, Mr Somporn said, “This will be the fourth time for Satun to host beach volleyball competitions. The Pak Bara Beach in Satun is one of Thailand’s most beautiful competition sites and without any doubt, a perfect landmark for beach volleyball. Local enthusiasts are also very friendly and hospitable.”

A total of 37 men’s teams from 16 countries have already confirmed their participation in the men’s competition, while 27 teams from 12 countries will battle it out in the women’s division.

Satun Vice Governor Jaruwat Kliangklao said: “On behalf of Satun province, I would like to confirm that all is set for the event. The preparation task has been completed to meet the international standards. Since the venue had been used earlier as the competition site for the one-star FIVB World Tour Pak Bara Beach Satun Thailand, I think we will have no problem hosting the Asian Championships. Our preparation will impress all participants, while five competition courts have already been set up for use during the competition.”
