{"id":144543,"date":"2025-08-16T17:55:54","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T17:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/?p=144543"},"modified":"2025-08-16T17:55:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T17:55:54","slug":"bagunas-on-alas-men-we-eat-together-train-hard-together-and-push-each-other","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/bagunas-on-alas-men-we-eat-together-train-hard-together-and-push-each-other\/","title":{"rendered":"BAGUNAS ON ALAS MEN: WE EAT TOGETHER, TRAIN HARD TOGETHER AND PUSH EACH OTHER"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>Credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/volleyballphilippines.com\">volleyballphilippines.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Philippine men are in the middle of a three-country training camp and are currently in Romania to polish to a luster a skill set and chemistry so important for them to flash before Filipino fans in the FIVB Volleyball Men\u2019s World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe eat together, train hard together and push each other,\u201d said Bryan Bagunas, one of the Philippines\u2019 stalwarts who\u2019s well on his way to recovery from his injury, from the Romania city of Piatra Neamt as the team head for a weekend grind under world champion Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraining here is intense in the morning and in the afternoon session, we focus on strength, conditioning and game systems,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Bagunas is a star, a Top Volleyball League champion and MVP in Chinese Taipei who recently earned a spot in Japan\u2019s Osaka Bluteon in the next SV.League season, not to mention his local exploits as MVP in both the University Athletic Association of the Philippines out of National University and the Spikers\u2019 Turf.<\/p>\n<p>But at Alas, he works as tough as everybody else, Frigoni is handling a 21-player pool from which he picks the final 14 for the worlds, to form a solid bond in a highly-competitive atmosphere in the camp.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Angiolino has been pushing us to be disciplined and smart on the court, and I think that\u2019s making a big difference in our preparation,\u201d he said as the days wind down to the last 27 days on Saturday (August 16) before the first serve between the Philippines and Tunisia on August 12 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Romania, the Philippines men\u2019s team were in Morocco and will be traveling to Portugal to wrap up their European training camp, Romania at No. 22 in the world and Portugal at No. 28 are playing in the worlds while Morocco is an active volleyball country ranked No. 81, four rungs below the No. 77 Philippines.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bagunas added that a solid bond is already solid in the team which is a mixture of veteran and young players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a great balance of veterans who bring experience and leadership, and younger players who bring energy and fresh perspectives,\u201d Bagunas said.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the pool besides the 6-foot-5 outside spiker, one of the ambassadors of the world championship, are his 2019 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist teammates Marck Espejo, Kim Malabunga, Owa Retamar and Jack Kalingking, as well as Steven Rotter, Lloyd Josafat, JP Bugaoan, Louie Ramirez, and Vince Lorenzo. The veterans are also learning while leading the young guns Leo Ordiales, Buds Buddin, Peng Taguibolos, Josh Yba\u00f1ez, Kennedy Batas, Jade Disquitado, Eco Adajar, John Michael Paglaon and Ike Andrew Barilea as well as Filipino-Foreigners Elijah Tae-Yin Kim and Lucca Mamone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Philippine National Volleyball Federation and Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon \u201cTats\u201d Suzara lauded the men\u2019s team for their hard work in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Men\u2019s team is in Portugal and Romania, they\u2019re working so hard so that they can improve our level and I hope we can really play better for the World Championship,\u201d Suzara said.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets to the world championships, set September 12 to 28 both at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and off match will be a first-of-its kind opening ceremony at the SM MOA Arena featuring the popular K-pop BOYNEXTDOOR and Cebuana singer, songwriter and actress Karencitta who\u2019ll be singing the
