{"id":144641,"date":"2025-08-23T16:42:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T16:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/?p=144641"},"modified":"2025-08-23T16:42:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T16:42:06","slug":"china-avoid-upset-with-comeback-win-over-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/china-avoid-upset-with-comeback-win-over-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"CHINA AVOID UPSET WITH COMEBACK WIN OVER MEXICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p><strong>The Asians came back to prevail 3-1 after dropping the first set in their debut<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Libero Wang Mengjie shows her excitment<\/em><\/p>\n<p>China turned things around and avoided what would have been a frustrating debut at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.volleyballworld.com\/volleyball\/competitions\/women-world-championship\/\">2025 FIVB Volleyball Women\u2019s World Championship<\/a> by coming back to beat Mexico on Saturday in Chiang Mai.<\/p>\n<p>The top-ranked team in Pool F, the Asians went down in the first set of their opening match, but showed strength to right the ship and walk away with a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.volleyballworld.com\/volleyball\/competitions\/women-world-championship\/schedule\/22404?match=China-vs-Mexico\">3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-10, 25-18)<\/a> victory that earned them valuable three points in the tournament.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b> Watch the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women&#8217;s World Championship on <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/vb.tv\/\"><b>VBTV<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Outside hitter Zhuang Yushan played a major role in the Chinese comeback, leading the team\u2019s scoring efforts with a match-high 23 points (20 kills, two blocks, one ace). Fellow outside hitter Wu Mengjie also had a productive shift, amassing 19 points, with 14 kills, four blocks and one ace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the first match in the tournament and I thought we were a little tight at the beginning,\u201d opposite Gong Xiangyu reflected. \u201cWe tried our best to handle the pressure and turn things around. We had some problems on the court today, and we\u2019ll try to fix them for the next matches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the Mexican side, opposite Sofia Maldonado was the stop scorer, with 22 points (21 kills, one block), followed by outside hitter Melanie Parra, who tallied ten, with nine kills and one ace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all knew China were going to be tough opponents because they play very fast and are very tall,\u201d outside hitter Samantha Bricio said. \u201cWe practiced very hard, and I think that showed in the first two sets. We still have a long way to go, but I think we did a good job today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s blocking power was a difference-maker in the match as the Asians got 12 points in that category against three of the Mexicans.
