{"id":48226,"date":"2019-09-29T15:06:11","date_gmt":"2019-09-29T15:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/?p=48226"},"modified":"2019-09-29T15:06:11","modified_gmt":"2019-09-29T15:06:11","slug":"china-crowned-world-cup-champions-anew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/china-crowned-world-cup-champions-anew\/","title":{"rendered":"CHINA CROWNED WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS ANEW"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>Osaka, Japan, September 29, 2019 \u2013 China reigned to sweep all eleven matches in Yokohama, Sapporo and Osaka, to defend their title in the FIVB Volleyball Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 edition gives China their historic fifth title, following earlier honours from 1981, 1985, 2003, and 2015. They now surpass Cuba\u2019s earlier record of four titles (1989, 1991, 1995, 1999) in the history of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>USA and Russia complete the 2019 podium as silver medallists and bronze medallists respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 champions China completed their unbeaten run on Sunday, defeating Argentina in straight sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-12 ) in Site A\u2019s Maruzen Intec Arena.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"CHINA vs. ARGENTINA - Highlights | Women&#039;s Volleyball World Cup 2019\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6n28gr6M7Hc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Chinese side dominated in all s fronts, with Gong Xiangyu leading all scorers on the board with 15 points. Setters Ding Xia and Yao Di ensured China\u2019s well distributed offence, enabling all hitters on the floor to score.<\/p>\n<p>Lang Ping shared her fond memories of Osaka, both as player, and now as coach of the back-to-back champions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was in 1981, I believe, I was 21 when I won this competition for first time. It has been 30 years since then, and I&#8217;m surprised myself that I&#8217;m in this competition right now. So I think Osaka is a lucky place for me,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48228\" src=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5184\" height=\"3456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53.jpg 5184w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/2-53-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5184px) 100vw, 5184px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Out of China\u2019s five World Cup titles, three have been accomplished in Osaka (1981, 2003, 2019).<\/p>\n<p>USA confirmed their runner-up position after defeating Korea 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 16-25, 25-22) in the first match of the day in Site B\u2019s Edion Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea Drews and Kelsey Robinson were the main scorers for Karch Kiraly, firing with accuracy and good ball placement. Korea posted good defence and good passing but misfired their attacks at times. The American side also showed they could play good backcourt defence which made them even more potent to set up their counter-attack.<\/p>\n<p>In the second set, Korea started facing problems in their passing unit as USA used pressure and precision in their serves. The Americans also started playing the middle. with Chiaka Ogbogu connecting on both block and attack.<\/p>\n<p>Korea Coach Stefano Lavarini signaled for a change of players, and a change of pace. Setter Hye Seon Yeum ran her plays on captain Kim Yeon Koung from the wing. Blocking also helped the Koreans take the third set.<\/p>\n<p>USA used their good service runs to gain advantage in the fourth set. Drews continued to attack with much accuracy to chart a total of 24 points in the victory.<\/p>\n<p>Russia fell to defeat against Brazil, 3-1 (28-26, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19) but the European side still earned a place in the podium as bronze medallists.<\/p>\n<p>In the second match in Edion Arena, Brazil served well enough to clog Russia\u2019s passing lanes. They also lined their blocks well, matching their opponents\u2019 naturally known strength. The hosts completed their campaign with a 3-1 victory (25-18, 27-25, 24-26, 25-21) over the Netherlands. Yuki Ishii scored a match-high of 25 points.<\/p>\n<p>Dominican Republic defeated Serbia, 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17) in the first match in Site A.
