Young guns including hard-attacking Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Pimpichaya Kokram, Thatdao Nuekjang and Chatchu-on Moksri are also ready to fill the senior players\u2019 shoes when they will call it a day in the near future.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-49522\" src=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1961\" height=\"2006\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886.jpg 1961w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886-293x300.jpg 293w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886-768x786.jpg 768w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886-1001x1024.jpg 1001w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_1886-600x614.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1961px) 100vw, 1961px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Against Indonesia in their opening clash and the 2017 final rematch, Thailand rested star spiker Pleumjit Thinkaow and the injury-hit Onuma Sittirak, allowing veteran Wilavan to lead the charge.<\/p>\n<p>Straight off the mark, Pimpichaya and Wilavan were on target and the rivals struggled as they were being picked apart by the high-flying hitters. Going down the first two sets 13-25 15-25, the Indonesians tried to claw back into the game with a last-ditch effort in the third set. However, the set turned a completely one-sided battle as Thailand mercilessly crushed them 25-9 to breeze past Indonesia with a comfortable straight-set win.<\/p>\n<p>Pimpichaya Kokram chipped in with 15 points for Thailand including 14 attacks from 31 attempts, while team-mate Wilavan Apinyapong added 10 points including 9 attacks. Pertiwi Hangestri led Indonesia with 11 points including 10 attacks from 36 attempts. Thailand also took advantage of the opponents\u2019 errors with 22 points, while Indonesia had only 7 points.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand will next take on hosts Philippines on Thursday, while Indonesia will go up against Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>In the second set, around 6,000 home fans thronged into the competition venue to boost Philippines\u2019 morale in their tough match against Vietnam, bronze medallists at the previous Games two years ago in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-49524\" src=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2042\" height=\"2015\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406.jpg 2042w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406-300x296.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406-768x758.jpg 768w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406-1024x1010.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406-600x592.jpg 600w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2406-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2042px) 100vw, 2042px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Philippines delighted the huge crowd in Philsports Arena with the first-set win 25-21, but things started to turn sour for the host side when Vietnam, steered by powerful attacker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, regained their composure to take the next two sets 25-23 25-19. Prolific Alyssa Valdez performed superbly to bring the hosts back on track as she spearheaded her majority of her team\u2019s attacks. Philippines bagged the fourth set 25-20, forcing the strong visitors to work overtime in the decider.
