Gottsu was a Beijing 2008 Olympian in volleyball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Both previously played with different partners and while Gottsu only switched to the beach discipline four years ago, he thought it was time to put together a strong tandem for Japan, so he decided to ask the veteran Shiratori.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI offered him to partner with me,\u201d Gottsu said. \u201cI am so excited to play with Shiratori who has participated in the Olympics twice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-54861\" src=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/e-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"748\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/e-1.jpg 748w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/e-1-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/asianvolleyball.net\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/e-1-600x770.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cYes, Ishijima asked me and I accepted because I wanted to challenge myself for my last Olympic race,\u201d Shiratori concurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI think that the experience of participating in the Olympics is our strength. His movements, behaviour and approach are linked to beach volleyball,\u201d Gottsu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMy strength is that I have a mind and body that I can improve without feeling the limits. Without compromise I will give it my 100 per cent best in training. It has been four years since he has shifted to beach volleyball and I think he has already adapted to it and he knows that there is still room for growth,\u201d Shiratori added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAs his partner, I will do my best to support him and make that smooth transition from volleyball to beach volleyball. My experience is my strength, so I will be able to guide Gottsu and give him advice. Having respect for each other makes the partnership stronger,\u201d Shiratori said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cRespect is important.
