Chennai, India, April 25, 2015 – The international FIVB Level 1 Coaches Course was concluded Saturday at Dr.Sivanthi Adityan FIVB Regional Development Centre for Volleyball, with Shri. S. Vasudevan, president of Tamil Nadu State Volleyball Association and Vice President of Volleyball Federation of India being the guest of honour to distribute the attestations to all successful candidates.

The course, which was held between April 14 and 25, drew a total of 36 candidates, most of them national players. All attending the course are Indian candidates including four women, but one candidate from Norway, Gustavo Vega Reyes, also joined the course.

FIVB Instructor Mr Moro Branislav from Serbia was the course director of the 12-day seminar, which consisted of theoretical and practical training, while India national team coach and Arjuna & Dronacharya Awardee Mr G.E. Sridharan was the course instructor.

The course was inaugurated by Mr Shambhu Kallolikar, I.A.S. Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu – Chennai, with the secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association, Mr R.K. Purushotham, and Volleyball Federation of India CEO, Dr. K. Murugan.

The main objectives of the course were to improve the knowledge and competence of coaches so that they may gain recognition as future FIVB coaches, to exchange ideas and experiences among them, to develop course and a method of training for qualified coaches and to establish a unified system for training coaches.

The Daily Thanthi and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu had extended their full support for the course, while Thanthi Television and other news media covered the event.

Shri. S. Vasudevan distributed special prizes to best candidates which comprised Mr R. Prabhakaran from India and Mr Gustavo Vega Reyes from Norway for Best in Practical, Mr Om Prakash from India and Mr Harendra Kumar from India for Best in Theory, and Mrs Vijaya Kumari from India for Best Women Candidate of the Course.
