Beijing, China, November 24, 2015 – FIVB Secretary General Fernando Lima and senior FIVB representatives met with the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and China Volleyball Association (CVA) in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss volleyball in China and the International Volleyball Federation’s strategic goal to make volleyball the no.1 family entertainment sport in the world.
FIVB Secretary General Fernando Lima was joined at the meeting by FIVB Sponsorship Sales Director Mario Medeiros, Beach Volleyball Events Vice-Director Yu Cao and Senior Strategic Advisor for the FIVB Michael Payne.
The Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and China Volleyball Association (CVA) were represented by COC Vice-President Yang Shu’an, COC Secretary General Song Luzeng, CVA Vice-President Liu Webin and were joined by AVC Vice President and FIVB Board of Administration Member Cai Yi.
The meeting covered the FIVB’s initiatives in bringing innovation and opportunities to the world of volleyball. Discussions also focused on the importance of fan engagement, on cooperation between the FIVB and CVA and on promoting the Volleyball Your Way campaign in China.
COC Vice-President and Vice-Minister of Sports Yang Shu’an said: “The Chinese Olympic Committee will fully support the innovations and reforms the FIVB is now implementing. The concept of Volleyball Your Way is in line with the Public Fitness Programme, which is the most important policy the Chinese government is now implementing for the general public. COC is committed to the improvement of the performance of the Chinese national volleyball team, while providing support for the development of volleyball in China. I believe with such support from both FIVB and COC, the CVA (China Volleyball Association) will enhance its National League and make the sport more appealing to the public.”
