Kozhikode, Kerala, India, December 17, 2015 – Beach spikers from eight countries will test their mettle in the AVC Continental Cup Central Zone Beach Volleyball Championships in Kozhikode, Kerala, India from December 18 to 20
The tournament includes both men’s and women’s competitions. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives all qualified from the AVC Continental Cup Central Asian Sub Zonal Tournament in Male, Maldives in January will compete in the men’s competition. The other three teams comprise Sri Lanka, Iran and Kazakhstan
In the women’s event, the qualified Maldives and Nepal will join Kazakhstan, India and Sri Lanka to vie for slots to the next round.
The competition is structured so that each country is represented by two teams. This applies to both the men’s and women’s events. In a clash, both teams of each country will play against the respective teams of the other country. If a country wins both matches, it is a clear win for the country and if both countries are even, a golden match will be played to decide the eventual winners.
The opening ceremony is due to be held on December 18, followed by the men’s first quarter-final match between Pakistan and India, from which the winners will next go up against Iran in the semi-finals. The other match on the opening day will see Sri Lanka take on Maldives. The winners in this encounter will next play Kazakhstan in the other semi-finals.
In the women’s competition, Maldives and Nepal will battle it out for a place in the semi-finals, where they are due to challenge Kazakhstan. The other semi-finals see India and Sri Lanka locked in an expected tight contest.
On December 17, the participating players sharpened their skills at the training courts and all of them took part in the technical meeting later in the evening.
