Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 8, 2016 – China bounced back from a five-set loss to Netherlands in day one to beat Italy in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) on Monday based on a well distributed attack with three players in double digits.

Middle-blocker Zhu Yunli had 12 points, including three blocks and one ace, as the most outstanding player for the winners. She was effective in 50% of her spike’s attempts. Zhu Ting added also 12, with two aces, and Zhang Changning contributed 11 points in the victory.

Paola Egonu had a match-high 22 points as the lone Italian in double figures. Serene Ortolani was next with just seven points, all in attacks.

China evened its record at 1-1 in Pool B, while Italy dropped to 0-2 after committing 24 unforced errors, doubling up the total of 12 made by the Asian team.

Zhu Ting, who scored with six spikes in the first set, gave China a two-point lead (16-14) they never relinquished.

Zhu landed two consecutive aces early in the second set and China went on to take the set and a 2-0 lead despite the strong showing by Italy’s Egonu.

China team had an easier path in the third set with a well distributed offence and good net defence. Xang sealed the match with a spike in the one-sided event.

Lang Ping, Coach of China: After a disappointing loss in game one it was good to get this victory. We had to fix some things and adjust others. Our team is very young and the players need to learn from every match. Our pool is very strong and we have to play more consistent.

Marco Bonitta, Coach of Italy: We tried our best in the first two sets, but we didn’t play so good in our reception. They (China) served well, good but not hot. The reception was our problem today.

Hui Ruoqi, Captain of China: Today’s game is very important for both teams. It was a tough match but I think everyone from our side tried their best and gave their part to win the match. Every match is important for us. Our first match was hard but we changed our tactics and we made sure that we have a winning mindset in this match. We know this is very important for us and we will try to do our best for the rest of the tournament.

Antonella Del Core, Captain of Italy: It’s really hard for us, we didn’t really play well and we had a lot of mistakes on attack and serve. Every time we lose a point, our game goes down. We have to forget about these two losses and try to continue to play better. We have to concentrate more especially on our serve.

Eleonora Lo Bianco, Player of Italy: We couldn’t play the way we wanted to. We did one great thing in one play and then we stop in the next few plays when we commit two or three mistakes in a row. This is a big problem and we can’t continue like this. I think we have not yet established familiarity with each other, so we need more time to work together as a team. Our young players are really good, but they still need more experience.
