Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, May 23, 2017 – Members of the Control Committee and Organising Committee converged on Tuesday for a joint meeting to kick off key activities for the SMM 2017 Asian Women’s Club Samruk Kazyna Volleyball Championship.
FIVB and AVC Honorary Life President Mr Wei Jizhong led the meeting as Control Committee President for the competition and declared the importance of all units working together towards a common goal of success.
The Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace, home to the city’s well-loved sport of ice hockey, was renovated and customised as venue for the 2017 staging of Asia’s premiere women’s club competition.
For the first time in AVC’s history, a massive LED scoreboard, running more than 30 metres in length, will be utilised to highlight match details, players’ information and broadcast feed. The display technology, which has been brought in especially for the competition, is expected to appeal to spectators by enhancing the onsite experience.
Askar Mozhanov, Head of Physical Training and Sports Administration of East Kazakhstan Region, welcomed the Control Committee and assured the city’s readiness for hosting Asia’s top-tier club teams.
First serve for the 18th edition of the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Thursday. A total of eight club teams divided in two groups will compete in pool play from May 25 to 27. The quarter-finals on Monday, May 29, will determine the top four teams to advance to the semi-final phase, scheduled for Tuesday, May 30.
The winners, to be determined in the finals on Wednesday, May 31, will earn a direct berth as Asian champions in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in 2018
