Ulanbaataar, Mongolia, May 19, 2017 – Mr Cai Yi, President of AVC Eastern Zonal Volleyball Association and Control Committee Chairman of the 2017 Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship, presided over the General Technical Meeting at Bayangol Hotel on Friday, with head coaches and staff from all seven participating teams in attendance.

Mr. Bayarbaatar Tsendsuren, President of Mongolian Volleyball Association, delivered the opening speech and wished all distinguished guests and officials a nice stay in Ulanbaataar.

The championship, which will be held from May 20 to 25, 2017, serves as a celebration for the 90th anniversary of the development of volleyball in Mongolia and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Volleyball Association this year.

A total of seven participating teams have been drawn into two pools. Hosts Mongolia, Korea and Macao are in Pool A, while Pool B comprises Japan, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea and Hong Kong. It’s disappointing that China are not sending their team to the six-day tournament due to some internal procedures.

The pool round-robin preliminaries will be held from May 20 to 22, with Hong Kong taking on DPR Korea, Japan playing Chinese Taipei, and Korea facing Macau on the opening day. Hosts Mongolia will make their debut on Sunday against Macau after the opening ceremony.

The Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship is a biennial official competition of AVC Eastern Zonal Volleyball Association. Last edition was also held in Ulanbaataar of Mongolia with Japan claiming the title, Chinese Taipei runners-up and Korea in third place.
