Ardabil, Iran, May 8, 2017 – Towering China overcame a sturdy challenge from Malaysia to produce a comeback 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-12, 29-27) win in the 5th-8th classification round at the SMM 2nd Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at the 6,000-seater Rezazadeh Indoor Stadium on Monday.

The Chinese players were amazed by the well-organised Malaysians in the first set but following the first-set loss, China made amends for a strong comeback to take the remaining three sets. With the win, China will next battle in the 5th-6th place playoff, while Malaysia are to fight for the 7th position on Tuesday, the final day of the tournament.

Chinese head coach Zhang Qiyong commented after the match: “Malaysia started better than us, but we regained confidence in the second set and the next two sets We lost to Chinese Taipei and the Iranian fans on Sunday, yet we enjoyed playing in this atmosphere. We will do our best tomorrow to clinch the fifth place.”
