Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, May 29, 2017 – The Monday’s quarter-finals at the SMM 2017 Asian Women’s Club Samruk Kazyna Volleyball Championship saw Japan’s Hisamitsu Seiyaku Springs, Thailand’s Supreme VC, China’s Tianjin Bohai Bank, and Kazakhstan’s Altay VC as the final four teams in contention for the title.
First to qualify were Hisamitsu Seiyaku Springs as they saw off Chinese Taipei’s Taiwan Power via a 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-12, 25-19) match. Hikari Kato was the best scorer among all players, punching in 19 points. Yuka Imamura provided another 15 markers for the Kobe-based Japanese club.
Supreme VC survived a 3-1 nail-biter (25-20, 25-12, 18-25, 27-25) against the Philippines’ Rebisco PSL. The Thai club’s Fatou Diouck amassed a total of 28 points on attack, with the Philippines’ Alyja Santiago retaliating with 22 points.
Tianjin Bohai Bank sailed into a straight-set (25-11, 25-20, 2511) victory over Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank. The Chinese squad outnumbered their opponents’ attacks, converting with 44 points, against Iran’s 26. China’s captain Chen Liyi and Wang Jiamin contributed 18 points each.
Hosts Altay VC outpowered Vietnam’s Vietin Bank, also in straight sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-14), by imposing a powerful frontline. The team collected 20 points off blocks and added five service aces to the tally. Sana Anarkulova, Kristina Aniknova, Olga Karppova, and Inna Matveyeva all contributed double-digit markers that delighted the home crowd.
The competition continues on Tuesday, May 30, with the semi-final phase at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace. Playing for the 5th to 8th (semi-finals) slots are the Philippines’ Rebisco-PSL and Iran’s Sarmayeh Bank at 11:30 local time; followed by Chinese Taipei’s Taiwan Power and Vietnam’s Vietin Bank at 14:00. The first semi-final encounter between Thailand’s Supreme VC and China’s Tianjin Bohai Bank will start at 16:30. The main event will feature the second semi-final between Kazakhstan’s Altay VC and Japan’s Hisamitsu Seiyaku Springs.
