Can Tho, Vietnam, May 2, 2017 – Tatyana Mashkova/Bakhtygul Samalikova of Kazakhstan were crowned champions following their remarkable 21-18, 21-16 victory over Thailand 1’s Varapatsorn Radarong/Tanarattha Udomchavee in the final showdown of the 2017 Can Tho Open AVC Women’s Volleyball Beach Tour in Can Tho, Vietnam on Monday.

Mashkova/ Samalikona, who earlier stormed past Linline Matauatu/Joe Loti of Vanuatu in comfortable straight sets 21-11, 21-10 in the semi-finals, continued their dazzling performance in the final clash against Varapatsorn/Tanarattha, champions at the last year’s Asian Beach Games in Danang, Vietnam and silver medallists at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea.

Going down in the first set 18-21, Varapatsorn/Tanarattha tried to make a comeback in the second set, but their intention was not successful as they committed many unforced errors and the Kazakhs performed better in some crucial moments. Mashkova/Samalikona took the second set 21-16 and the championship.

In the third-place playoff earlier, Thailand 2’s Rampaipruet Numwong/Khanittha Hongpak, who lost to Varapatsorn/Tanarattha 21-8,21-9 in the all-Thais semi-final clash, struggled hard to beat Linline Matauatu/Joe Loti from Vanuatu in hard-fought three sets 21-19,18-21,15-6.
