Ardabil, Iran, May 7, 2017 – Uzbekistan returned with the 9th place after a 3-0 (25-23 25-21 25-21) demolition of Sri Lanka in the 9th-10th place playoff at the SMM 2nd Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at the 6,000-seater Rezazadeh Indoor Stadium on Sunday.

Karimijan Rakhimkulov’s players did what the head coach had promised after the win against Australia to snatch the 9th place in this top-flight tournament. Uzbekistan dominated the whole match, except at a crucial moment in the first set when Sri Lanka counter-attacked well to take the lead.

Uzbekistan’s Rakhimkulov commented that his players deserved more and could earn a better place as he said: “Since we once lost to Sri Lanka 2-3 in this tournament, we had enough experience to remove our problems. We analyzed them and were successful in beating the Sri Lankans this time.”
