Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, May 17, 2017 – Vietnam had a little problems in brushing off Malaysia in straight sets 25-15 27-25 25-15 at their second playoff match in the round of the last eight teams in Pool F at the SMM 2nd Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship at The Mall Nakhon Ratchasima’s MCC Hall on Wednesday.
With the sensational win, Vietnam, led by the 187cm-tall ace spiker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, finished second in Pool F following their wins over Iran and Malaysia. They are expected to take on Kazakhstan, third place in Pool E in the knock-out quarter-finals on Friday.
Tran Thi Thanh Thuy handed Vietnam massive 19 points including 17 kills from 29 attempts and one block. Trina Thi Huyen added 10 kills, while Low Mei Cing topscored with 11 points for Malaysia.
After the match, Vietnam’s Japanese head coach Irisawa Hidehiro admitted that his players’ form did not satisfy him. “I’m not happy with my players’ form. They made too many mistakes. It’s possible that we will play Kazakhstan in the quarter-finals. I think they are tall and one of the strong teams with good blocking. We will have a tough match against them, but we will do our best.”
