Ninh Binh, Vietnam, July 6, 2017 –Iraq’s Al-Bahri Sport Club overpowered Beijing Baic Motor from China 3-1 (25-14, 25-14,19-25, 25-22) finish 5th place at the SMM 2017 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at the Ninh Binh Gymnasium on Thursday.
Al-Bahri got off to a flying start to win the first two sets with similar margins 25-14, 25-14. But after that, Chinese team found their groove in the third set, bouncing back aggressively with an excellent combination of Yin Jie and Sun Yobo to help the team win the set 25-19.
However, the Iraqis maintained their poise in the fourth to come up with fine form to take an early 9-5 lead and, despite a strong challenge from the tough rivals, stretched it to 24-22. Ali Ahmed Omar carried out a terrific jump serve to clinch the set and match.
Safaa Lafta Majeed topscored with 16 points for Al-Bahri, while Islam Sachit Challab added 14 points. Yin Jie led Beijing Baic Motor with 18 points
“I’m very happy that my team took the fifth place. The Chinese team did not show their best performance in this match. It’s possible that they are rather exhausted after playing successive tough matches. But my players did a good job today. Our attacks ,serves, and defense worked out pretty well,” Al-Bahri’s head coach Awfi Mohammed said after the match.
“This championship is very good for us. We obtained good experience after playing against strong teams.We will try again in the next championship for a better result,” he added.
