Surabaya, Indonesia, July 25, 2017 – China proved too strong for Hong Kong to outclass the inexperienced rivals in comfortable straight sets 25-13 25-16 25-19 for two wins in a row at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro Gymnasium on Tuesday.

China, whose height average is 199cm against Hong Kong’s 186cm, dominated the first two sets without much effort 25-13 25-16 when they used high blocks from Zhang Binglong and Miao Ruantong and deadly hits by Tang Chuanhang and Zhang Binglong for the win. Hong Kong came back much stronger in the third set, seizing the opportunity when the Chinese became more prone with unforced mistakes. Hong Kong led initially 6-1 and went on their impressive form to stretch the lead to 14-10 and 16-11 before China clawed their way back to catch up with the gallant Hong Kong at 16-16 and stormed on to win the set 25-19 and match.

“It was a technical difference between Hong Kong and China. In the third set, Hong Kong played their top ability. However, I think compared between Hong Kong and Thailand, we played Thailand more difficultly. Against Australia in our next match on Wednesday, we have to see which team play better. Certainly, we want to win that match,” said China’s Argentine head coach Raul Lozano after the match.

Tang Chuanhang scored a team-high 19 points including 16 kills from 22 attempts. Zhang Binglong contributed 11 kill points. He also collected 4 kill blocks and Mao Ruantong had 3 block points, with Zhang Guojun producing 3 aces. Chan Alex Chi Wai was the Hong Kong’s top scorer with 19 points including 16 attack hits.
