Surabaya, Indonesia, July 26, 2017 – In-form Kazakhstan continued their unbeaten streak at the SMM 2017 Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship after brushing off Saudi Arabia in convincing straight sets 25-13 25-22 25-17 at the Wahana Ekspresi Poesponegoro Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Kazakhstan, a distant 11th place at this season’s World League Group 3, overcame strong challenges from Qatar and hosts Indonesia to win the first two matches in similar five sets. Against Saudi Arabia, the Kazakh side got off to a great start with a one-sided 25-13 win in the opening set, thanks to Maxim Michshenko’s thundering attacks and Anton Kuznetsov’s monster blocks. Saudi Araba put their acts together in the second and third sets, but found the formidable rivals’ tactics difficult to handle to go down 22-25 17-25.

Maxim Michshenko led Kazakhstan with 13 points, all from his aggressive attacks, while Anton Kuznetsov scored 7 kill blocks and Vassiliy Donents produced 3 ace serves. Ali Majrashi Ibrahim scored 7 points for Saudi Arabia.
