Bangkok, Thailand, July 8, 2017 – The idea initiative of organising a brand-new Asean Grand Prix Women’s Volleyball Competition was one of the highlights raised for discussions at the Southeast Asian Volleyball Association Meeting at Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel here on Saturday.
The one-day meeting was chaired by SEAVA President Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, with 9 affiliated member countries taking part to review their hard works and activities the past year and look ahead to future volleyball and beach volleyball competitions in the region in line with development policy of the AVC and the FIVB.
Attending the Saturday’s meeting were Mr Kimtor Beung from Cambodia, Mr Chansamone Phongchantha from Laos, Mr Liu Foo Yeon from Malaysia, Mr Thein Win from Myanmar, Mr Ariel Paredes and Mr Clive Cariage from the Philippines, Mr Su Jong Jin from Singapore, Mr Fernando A. Costa from Timor Leste and Mr Tran Duc Phan from Vietnam, while Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, AVC Secretary-General and AVC Vice-President of South Eastern Zone, conducted the meeting.
Also in attendance to witness the meeting were Dr Ruengsak Siriphol, General Manager of the AVC Headquarters, TVA Secretary-General Mr Jaksuwan Tocharoen and Mr Songsak Chareonpong, Chairman of the AVC Referees Committee.
During the meeting, the topic of the inaugural ASEAN Grand Prix was raised for discussion. The ASEAN women’s volleyball competition will be held among four participating countries, namely Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. Players who can join the competition should be either women’s national team or top players and two foreign players can be submitted to each team, but only one player can play at a time.
The Media & Marketing as well as the benefits and obligations were also taken into consideration in the meeting.
Furthermore, it’s also given the SEAVA great pleasure to support the AVC Sports Events Council on their New Competition Format proposed to be used from 2018 onwards.
This is to increase the quality and competitiveness of volleyball products, to generate exciting matches for players, team, media, fans and on-line interests by reducing easy matches aside from reducing financial burden for the host and participating teams by reducing the number of competition days with New Competition Format.
With the use of New Competition Format, all AVC competitions will be finished within a maximum of eight days. In addition, the meeting was informed about the 2017/2018 International Transfer Season information from the FIVB and the FIVB Development Projects.
Meanwhile, Mr Brian Tan, Head of the Beach Volleyball Committee and AVC Technical Supervisor (Beach), has updated on the 3D perspective drawing for the 29th South East Asian Beach Volleyball competition venue in view of the SEAVA meeting.
The Volleyball Association of Singapore with its two new partners on board are determined to make this SEA BVB event a major success to play their part to help beach volleyball in SEA Region.
In line with their parents, VAS will bid to host three international events from 2017 to 2019 in Singapore. They comprise the SEA BVB Championship in 2017, the 2018 AVC Women’s Beach Master Tour Singapore and the 2019 AVC Women’s Beach Master Asian Championship, which still needs a pending further discussion.
