Surabaya, Indonesia, July 27, 2017 – Thailand, which will be back to defend their South East Asian (SEA) Games crown in Malaysia next month, shrugged off the dismal start to beat Iraq in dramatic four-setter 20-25 25-12 25-23 25-21 at their first 9th-16th playoff encounter at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Tri Dharma Petrokimia Gymnasium on Thursday.
Young Kantapat Koonmee, who stands 204cm tall, handed Thailand 18 crucial points for the team’s winning including 15 kills from 25 attempts, while hard-attacking Jirayu Raksakaew added 16 kills. Shamil Nameer led Iraq with 12 points including 8 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces.
Thailand will next go up against Pakistan and Iraq take on Hong Kong on Saturday.
