Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 25, 2017 – Myanmar thrashed underdogs Cambodia in comfortable straight sets 25-12 25-20 25-18 in their last pool round-robin preliminary encounter to finish second in Pool A at the 29th South East Asian Games Men’s Volleyball Championship at the MITEC Hall 11 on Friday.
Myanmar lost in straight sets to title-holders Thailand in their opening match on August 21 before narrowly beating hosts Malaysia 3-2 the following day. Myanmar outclassed Cambodia in three-setter on Friday to finish second to Thailand in Pool A with 5 points from two wins against one loss. The win also carried Myanmar to the semi-finals, where they are due to challenge Pool B winners Indonesia.
Aung Thu scored a match-high 18 points from 10 devastating attacks, 5 kill blocks and 3 aces for Myanmar, while Zaw Htet Aung added 9 points, all from his powerful spikes. Raksmey Mey led Cambodia with 9 points including 8 attacks from 24 attempts.
