Ardabil, Iran, August 13, 2017 – China emerged as the first team from Pool A to capture the first spot for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria after 3-0 (25-18 25-10 25-23) demolition of Korea in their Asian Qualifier Pool A encounter at the 6,000-Rezazadeh Stadium on Sunday.

Only top two out of five participating teams will make the cut for the next year’s world meet from September 10 to 30.

It was the China’s sweet revenge over Korea, to whom they lost in the quarter-finals of the recent SMM 19th Asian Senior Men’s Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia. The Sunday’s victory has also earned China the berth for the next year’s World Championship.

Raul Lozano, the Argentine head coach of China said after the match: “Teams of Pool B were not that challenging. Therefore, it was not that tough to play there. All the opponents in Pool A are tough and there is a close rivalry among them. So it was hard playing and qualifying in this round.”
