Manila, Philippines, August 11, 2017 – As soon as they found their grooves, China were unstoppable in their track as they dispatched Australia 25-13, 25-8, 25-9 to continue their run here at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on Friday.
Pressed to a virtual do-or-die battle after dropping a three set-loss to rivals Japan on the first day, the Chinese spikers responded accordingly as they successfully finished second in Pool B to secure a seat in the quarter-finals.
Cai Xiaoqing relentless pounded the Australian’s floor defense as she produced 12 kills in her 15-point performance while Jin Ye had a field day dropping aces as half of her 14 points came at the service line.
“I expected that our attacking and serves (will work) against the opponents,” said China head coach Bao Zhuang.
Team captain Beth Carey was at the forefront of Australia’s gallant stand, collecting 6 points but their poor reception and unforgivable 27 unforced errors doomed their cause.
China now gear up for a titanic clash with powerhouses Thailand in the crossover quarter-final pairing while Australia will still play classification matches at the resumption of the tournament on Sunday.
