Ardabil, Iran, August 11, 2017 – China netted their second win at the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Asian Qualifier Pool A after edging Qatar in close straight sets 25-22 25-21 25-22 at the 6,000-seater Rezazadeh Stadium on Friday.

Winning straight two wins with 6 points, China are now ready to go up against hosts Iran in the decisive match on Sunday.

Against China, Raul Lozano, the Argentine head coach of China, said: “I knew Iran so well but to beat them, I should have known more. It we can use our system how to foil their blocking ability, we can win then. In Rio Olympic Games, Iran were among the top three of the best blocking efforts. So, the key to our win will be to adapt our operations to their blocking system.”

The top two teams of the Ardabil tournament will qualify for the 2018 World Championship, which will be jointly hosted by Italy and Bulgaria next year.

Hosts Italy and Bulgaria, defending world champions Poland have direct tickets to the FIVB’s flagship tournament. France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia, Serbia, Finland, and Belgium from Europe plus Japan and Australia from Asia have already secured their berths through continental qualifiers.
