Manila, Philippines, August 14, 2017 – With their backs against the wall, Hong Kong successfully escaped the hard fall in search of a better ranking after crushing New Zealand 25-16, 25-20, 25-12 at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship here.

The win towed them to top Pool H despite their 5-set loss to Sri Lanka, a team that ironically fell to the 13th-14th classification match.

The Kiwis had no answer for Chim Wing Lam who exploded for 18 points off 16 kills and 2 service aces.

Hong Kong also took advantage of New Zealand’s unforgivable 26 errors and faulty receptions to keep their hopes alive for a 9th place finish at best.

Hong Kong now face Iran while New Zealand had to deal with Pool G first placer Australia in the crossover semi-finals of the classification matches for 9th-12th place.
