Ardabil, Iran, August 13, 2017 – Iran are assured of winning the Asia’s final World Championship ticket after a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16) rout of Kazakhstan at the 2018 FIVB Men’s World Championship Asian Qualifier Pool A at the 6,000-seater Rezazadeh Stadium.
Iran entered the court standing a good chance of qualifying for the next year’s world meet in Italy and Bulgaria. The host side have already beaten Korea and China in the round-robin tournament, while Kazakhstan fought with no chance of advancing following their straight two losses.
Kazakhstan, runners-up at the recent SMM 19th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia, tried to make a comeback after losing the opening set 18-25. However, their attempts did not pay off as Iran performed superbly to close the set 25-17.
With the boisterous fans cheering them all the way, Iran dominated the whole third set and won 25-16 and match,
Iran sill have one match remaining against Qatar on Monday. However, with three wins in their tally, Iran are assured of securing their World Championship berth.
Hosts Italy and Bulgaria, defending world champions Poland have direct tickets to the FIVB’s flagship tournament. France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia, Serbia, Finland, and Belgium from Europe plus Japan, Australia, Iran, and China from Asia have also secured their berths through continental qualifiers.
