Manila, Philippines, August 9, 2017 – Even without some of their reliable stars, powerhouse Japan cruised to a convincing opening day victory after thumping Australia 25-19, 25-14, 25-8 Wednesday at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

The Japanese played efficiently in both ends with ace spiker Mami Uchiseto doing the most damage as she collected 13 points built around 10 kills and 3 service aces while Rika Nomoto and Mami Nomoto backed her up with 9 and 8 markers, respectively.

Seemingly warming up in the opening frame, Japan were already an unstoppable force above the net in the next two sets maintaining a double-digit lead en route to a one-sided affair.

The Aussies tried all they can to keep up with the World No. 6 but were simply outclassed by their disciplined foes, who had 42 total kills.

Japan will face archrival China in a titanic showdown at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
