Manila, Philippines August 17, 2017 – Korea vented out their frustration on dethroned champion China 25-11, 25-18, 25-20 to salvage third place at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on Thursday at Alonte Sports Arena here.
Team captain Kim Yeon Koung led the way for the Koreans from a straight-set loss to Thailand in the semi-finals that spoiled their bid for a first title.
Kim Her-Jin finished with 16 points and Park Jeong Ah added 13 and Kim Keon-Koung had eight markers for Korea, which avenged their loss to China in the Finals of the 2015 edition in Tianjin, China.
Han Sio Ji and Kim Su Ji each had seven points for Korea, which also defeated China in the battle for third in the 2013 edition in Nakhon Ratchasima.
It was China’s second time to miss a podium finish after winning the championship 13 times.
Jin Ye had 10 points for China.
“We are disappointed with the loss to Thailand in the semi-finals on Wednesday, but we are happy that we beat China for the bronze medal. Actually, we had a tight schedule before competing in this championship. We contested the World Grand Prix and there are so many young players in our team. I think they learned a lot from this tournament. After this, we will train more for the World Championship Qualification in Thailand and hope to do our best there,” Kim Yeon Koung said in an interview.
