Manila, Philippines — Korea swept Philippines, 25-23, 25-18, 25-12 in the top 8 playoff encounter at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday at Alonte Sports Arena here.
Yang Hyo Jin finished with 13 points for Korea, which improved to a 2-0 win-loss record tied with Kazakhstan in Pool E.
Team captain Kim Yeon Koung, who did not play in their first two matches and was used only in the fourth set in the match against Vietnam, was fielded in all the three sets to provide Korea with 12 points.
Jaja Santiago made 10 points for the Philippines, while Alyssa Valdez and Jovelyn Gonzaga added seven markers apiece. The host country dropped to 0-2 tied with Vietnam.
“The Philippines are very strong and if we want to be the best against them, I think we have to foil Alyssa Valdez’s attempts. Our preparation must be intense and we have to do our best against Kazakhstan.”
