Despite the rough sailing throughout the tournament, Sri Lanka still managed to stave off a last place finish after dismantling fellow South Asian country Maldives 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 in their 13th-14th classification match at the SMM 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Sri Lanka actually had the chance to get a higher position in the 14-team field but their group stage loss to New Zealand proved to be costly down the road.

Still, it didn’t dampen the mood of Ranasingha Ranasingha, who led the assault for the Sri Lankans with her 16 points off 15 kills and a block en route to their lop-sided victory to end their campaign on a winning note.

Consistent scorer Wasana Dharmatissa also chipped in 12 in denying Maldives of a win in this edition.

Maldives lost to Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Iran in the group stage before failing to salvage any win in the classification matches.
