Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 21, 2017 – Vietnam sent the Philippines packing in straight sets 25-19 25-21 25-20 in their opening match at the 29th South East Asian Games Men’s Volleyball Championship at the MITEC Hall 11 on Monday.

Nguyen Hoang Thuong scored 10 points for Vietnam, 8 of which through his powerful attacks. Le Thanh Hac and Hoang Van Phuong scored 7 apiece through their attacks for the winners’ convincing win. Abdilla Alnakran Daimino topscored 14 points in a losing effort OF the Philippines.

Vietnam have yet won the SEA Games title. They came within a whisker of winning their first gold medal ever in 2007 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand when they went down to the eventual winners Indonesia in the showdown and 2015 in Singapore, where they made it to the final showdown, but suffered a disappointing loss o the much stronger Thailand. The Vietnamese finished 10th position at the recent Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia.
