Almaty, Kazakhstan, September 20, 2017 – China rushed to a straight-sets win against Fiji (25-5, 25-10, 25-14) in Pool A of the 2018 FIVB Women’s World Championship – AVC Qualification Tournament at Baluan Sholak Sports Palace on Wednesday.
Zhang Changning led all scorers on the board with 10 points from eight attacks and two blocks.
China sent off their strong starters with Zhang, captain Zhu Ting, Yuan Xinyue, Zeng Chunlei, Yan Ni, setter Ding Xia and libero Liin Li. They were all business as they stepped onto the court, displaying their top-level skills against the Fiji side.
“It is the first match of the tournament, and we needed everybody to be well-prepared. In fact, all of our players went to the court today,” said China coach An Jiajie.
With their debut in the international arena, Fiji showed they could be able to receive their opponents’ serves and sustain rallies, but they were not able to match up with the competitiveness of their opponents.
By the third set. China coach An brought in his bench players while still maintaining their top-level brand of volleyball. The Olympic champions spared little room for their opponents to score substantially. They led on all fronts, posting 41 attacks, six blocks, four service aces, in the 56-minute match.
Fiji captain Karisitiana Ulamila delighted in being to play against a significant team, and even managing to connect with good offensive runs.
“We are proud of how we performed today. For each set, we increased our score. We managed to gather our efforts and determination to put on a good performance against the Olympic Champions,’ said Ulamila.
