Osaka, Japan, October 7, 2017 – The AVC Beach Volleyball Tour “Grand Front Osaka Master” confirms men’s top 8 teams and women’s top 16 teams on Saturday.
Qataris 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympian Jefferson Santos Pereira/Cherif Younousee showed off their performance to sweep New Zealand’s Rene Kappa/Morgan Seymour in Pool Play and Iranians Rahman Raoufi/Bahman Salemi Injehboron in Round of 16. Santos Pereira evaluates their games, “We could have played well so far in this tournament. Tomorrow’ s game will be important and tough, so I want to focus on the match tomorrow.
The hosts Katsumasa Onodera/Yuya Ageba welcome Kazakhs Dimitriy Yakovlev/Sergey Bogatu to “Grand Front” main court. In the great crowd, Onodera and Ageba played against well-experienced Yakovlev and Bogatu, but did not succeed in winning the final set; 1-2(17-21, 26-24, 15-17). Bogatu was satisffied with victory, “In the third set, a good luck came to us. Also, I liked to play on the main court of this tournament”.
For the women’s side, Japanese top seeds Miki Ishii/Megumi Murakami showed off their power against Hong Kong’s Ting Chi Yuen/Wai Yan Au Yeung with straight-set match 21-11, 21-10. Ishii looked satisfied with the win, “I’ve been nervous because it’s been a long time without playing against overseas teams. Little by little, our performance became better than the previous domestic tournament”.
Japanese teams occupy 6 of 16 vacancies of the first elimination round. Four of them take on opponents in all-Japanese battles; Akiko Hasegawa/Azusa Futami vs Yui Nagata/Minori Kumada and Takemi Nishibori/Ayumi Kusano vs Sayaka Mizoe/Suzuka Hashimoto.
On the other aspect, Australians Louise Bawden/Jessyka Ngauamo and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar/Taliqua Clancy, Thai Varapatsorn Radarong/Tanarattha Udomchavee and Rumpraipuet Numwong/Khanittha Hongpak also booked for Round of 16 and are ready for survival race.
On the third day, men’s finalists and women’s semi-finalists will be confirmed.
