Bangkok, Thailand, February 2, 2018 – AVC Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamza Ahmad Al Failakawi emphasized during the opening of the AVC Development and Marketing Committee and the AVC Press Committee meetings on Friday that the Asia’s volleyball-governing body should comply well with the FIVB’s effective budget allocation planning and attempt to technically conduct a feasibility study how to come up with immediate adjustments.

The annual Technical Meetings of eight AVC Committees, being held to exchange ideas and relationship among committee members, kicked off on Friday at the Dusit Princess Srinakharin Hotel in Bangkok with the meetings of AVC Development and Marketing Committee and the AVC Press Committee. Mr Essa Hamza, himself FIVB Executive Vice President and chairman of the AVC Finance Committee, presided on behalf of AVC President Dr Saleh A. Bin Nasser over the opening ceremony of both committee meetings.

AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert and AVC General Manager Dr Ruengsak Siriphol were guests of honours at the opening ceremony, attended by members from the AVC Development and Marketing Committee and the AVC Press Committee.

Mr Essa Hamza said in his opening speech that there was a big change in FIVB and the AVC should follow in their footsteps since without the FIVB’s supports, there can be no AVC.

“Development might be affected directly by the change, especially in terms of the financial supports from FIVB. Nonetheless, We have been preparing all AVC affairs to adjust themselves to the limited budget. FIVB had partly stopped their financial supports to the Confederations, but we have to do our best in turning crisis into opportunity. We have to make full use of the limited budget, deal better with this difficult matter and try to get past this tough situation quickly. I still believe we can run AVC activities only if all NFs and technical committees wisely put their acts together,” Mr Hamza cited.

“It is clear that the limited budget is likely to affect running Development Centres, but I’m upbeat that we can still handle problems of conducting courses, seminar and services if we learn how to cope well with the reduced budget and spend it wisely. At present, there are only three active Development Centres – Dominican Republic, Argentina and Thailand.

“In terms of the AVC Press Committee, there is no more FIVB Press Commission and the Press Committee is, therefore, just part of the FIVB Communication Commission. To help save the budget, nomination for the press delegate for any AVC tournaments should be done properly from now on. It’s necessary that the person in charge of the local press director or the one who stays near the organisers should get a better chance of working as the press delegate. This will help save the AVC’s budget on air fees and additional expenditure. Furthermore, press releases from AVC, especially from the press delegate covering any AVC tournament should be well-written, short and concise. The press release from AVC competitions should not be that long any more,” he said.

Mr Shanrit added that despite the insufficient budget, some AVC Referee Courses including Refreshment Course and Coach Seminar should remain. “It’s still important that we (AVC) continue organising some Referee Courses because we need referees to officiate AVC Tournaments in the near future and to make their responsibilities in those tournaments a success, they have to learn new technologies and get some ideas from the instructors. That’s why referee courses remain necessary,” he said.
