Jakarta, Indonesia, February 14, 2018 – Unbeaten Indonesia A powered into the final of the 18th Asian Games Men’s Volleyball Invitation Tournament at the Tennis Indoor Senayan in Jakarta after a dramatic 3-1 victory over lack lustrous Hong Kong in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

The hard-fought 25-13 23-25 25-23 25-20 win not only gave Indonesia A a clean sweep of four successive wins in the five-day meet, but also set up an all-Indonesians final clash with Indonesia B, which repeatedly survived Japanese scare to win a close four-set battle in another semi-final encounter.

Indonesia A had already beaten Hong Kong in straight sets in the round-robin preliminaries on their second match of the tournament on Monday. However, with consistency and improved defence, Hong Kong came back much stronger this time in the semi-finals.

Rivan Nurmulki, who won the Best Opposite Spiker award at the last year’s 18th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship in Gresik, Indonesia, remained in awesome form to lead Indonesia A with 24 points including 21 kills from 35 attempts and 2 blocks. Doni Haryono added 15 points for the team’s scintillating win, while Chin To Chin To contributed 16 points to Hong Kong.

In the other semi-final match, Indonesia B, which produced a fantastic comeback 3-2 win over Japan in their first meet on Monday, proved their ability gain to repeat the feat over the same rivals in a hotly-contested match 26-24 25-20 23-25 25-22.

Sigit Ardian was the Indonesia B’s top scorer in this match after collecting 25 points including 22 attacks from 35 attempts. Dani Anggriawan and Huda Ramzil added 18 and 16 points respectively for the home side’s triumph over the young Japanese.

On Thursday, the final day of the competition which served as the Test Event 2018 Asian Games, winless Hong Kong and Japan will battle it out for the third place at 4pm local time, while the host nation set up an all-Indonesians final showdown at 7pm.
