Bangkok, Thailand, February 3, 2018 – The AVC Medical Committee, chaired by Dr Yonus Popalzay, met in Bangkok on Saturday for their annual meeting to review all related tasks completed and the coming work this year.

Mr Essa Hamza, AVC Executive Vice President, and AVC Secretary General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert joined the opening. Mr Hamza informed the meeting that the FIVB subsidy for anti-doping tests this year will be decreased and requested AVC MC members to consider how to suitably adapt the number of anti-doping tests in AVC events to accord with the limited budget.

The related matters in medical and anti-doping fields for each AVC event last year, both indoor and beach volleyball which had Medical Delegate on duty, were raised for review and discussion. The committee members also acknowledged the decisions of AVC Board of Administration Meeting and AVC General Assembly to the AVC MC proposals.

Furthermore, the Medical and anti-doping matters in recent FIVB Medical Commission Meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland were presented by Dr Rueangsak Siriphol to all members for discussion and acknowledgement.

These matters included the transgender of players, health management program for referees, anti-doping results violations, results of therapeutic use exemptions, and adaptation of medical timeout in beach volleyball.

The 2018 anti-doping tests plan for eight indoor and two beach volleyball events had also been considered. The meeting discussed and suggested how to increase the number of tests on a limited budget. These suggestions will be next proposed to the AVC BA Meeting, due to be held in May in Pattaya, a seaside resort city in Chon Buri province, Thailand.

The Meeting also considered the committee members who are suitable for working as the medical delegate of each AVC event, both indoor and beach volleyball this year.
