AVC NFS ROUSED TO HOST AND CONTEST CONTINENTAL BEACH VOLLEYBALL COMPETITIONS – Asian Volleyball Confederation

Bangkok, Thailand, March 3, 2018 – Following their recent annual meeting at the Dusit Princess Srinakharin Hotel in Bangkok, the AVC Beach Volleyball Committee have set their high hopes of encouraging Asian countries not only to contest and host more continental competitions, but also to help Asian beach volleyball reach new heights in the near future.

Mr Craig Carracher, the AVC Beach Volleyball Committee Chairman, the Oceania Volleyball President and Volleyball Australia President, chaired the one-day meeting on February 27, with AVC Executive Vice President Mr Essa Hamzah and AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert in attendance to deliver speeches which aimed to inform all the Beach Volleyball Committee Members of the financial situations the AVC have been facing and sustainable development of Asian beach volleyball to continue.

Despite lack of the financial support, Mr Essa insisted that beach volleyball still plays a viral role for the AVC and the Asia’s volleyball-governing body also aim to see the Asian players gain experience and exposure by taking part in more competitions. An increasing number of strong teams from Asia, he said, are expected in the World Tour and continental competitions including the Asian Tour events.

The Members have been asked to coordinate well with the AVC for any development-related beach volleyball activities and by means of coordination and cooperation, beach volleyball in Asia can soar high in its popularity in terms of the competitions and the organisation.

One of the main topics discussed in the meeting was the urgent case of the Asian Qualification Tournaments for Youth Olympic Games and the FIVB U19 World Championships to be held later this year in Argentina and China respectively. The AVC and the Beach Volleyball Committee are said to work much harder in an effort of encouraging AVC’s affiliated federations to send their players to strut their stuff in the continental competitions and major tournaments in the near future which will result in higher standard the Asian beach volleyball can obtain.

Furthermore, the meeting also took the qualification process for Asian players to compete in the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships at 13,000-seater Am Rothenbaum Stadium in Hamburg, Germany aside from the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020 for discussion.
