Lausanne, Switzerland, February 27, 2018 – The FIVB Ethics Panel met Tuesday in Lausanne to discuss its role and responsibilities as well as the improvement of the ethical framework of the FIVB and its implementation in all the aspects of the FIVB’s work.

Four members of the FIVB Ethics Panel: Chairperson Dr. José Joaquin Puello (DOM), Vice-Chairperson Ruben Urrutia Guimaraes (URU), and members Khalid Abu Rashid (KSA) and Richard Callicott (ENG) were present at the meeting with one, Abdelhadi Ghzali (MAR), being excused.

Addressing the Panel, the FIVB President, Dr. Ary S. Graça F° said:
“My top priority today is good governance. We would like to ensure that all we do at the FIVB is transparent and professional. It is very important for us to have the FIVB Ethics Panel very active, but at the same time fully independent.

“We would like you to also review our Code of Ethics and would like to change your role from making recommendations to the FIVB President and FIVB Board of Administration to, instead, taking decisions directly if there is a case. This is, for sure, crucial to obtaining complete credibility and democracy.”

Following the meeting, the FIVB Ethics Panel will conduct a review of the Code of Ethics and will propose changes to the FIVB Board of Administration in May 2018 before presenting these to the FIVB World Congress later in the year.
