Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, March 22, 2018 – The opening ceremony and welcome dinner for all players and officials participating in the Asian U19 Beach Volleyball Championships between March 23 and 25 took place at the Kingdao Room, Whale Hotel in Nakhon Pathom on Thursday night.
Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of Thailand Volleyball Association, and Lt. Col. Sinthop Kaewpijit, President of the Nakhon Pathom Sports Association, jointly presided over the opening of the three-day, double-gender competition, which attracted a total of 37 teams including 23 men’s vying for the top honours and quotas on offer for the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina and the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships in China.
Mr Somporn delivered an opening speech and thanked the local organisers to make the Championships ready to kick off officially on Friday, while Lt. Col. Sinthop welcomed all participants, citing that the host city spent around one month in preparing and putting things in a particular order to make clear that the Championships will be run smoothly.
AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, himself the president of the Control Committee, also expressed his sincere thanks to the local organisers to make all preparation tasks completely done before the competition will start the following day.
The three-day meet is initially due to take place in Maldives, but due to the internal problems in the country, Thailand was in place to host the Championships.
Prior to the opening, a magnificent traditional folk dance was performed before all participants joining the welcome dinner. Flag bearers carrying flags of all participating countries were on parade march into the Kingdao Room. At the end of the opening, all team players, officials and the organisers enjoyed the welcome dinner.
